In This Blog Post:
You Can't Buy Love
No matter what Hallmark thinks, you can't buy love with roses and chocolates.
Love is earned and given through a lifetime of choices and actions.
We can say, "I love you," a thousand times but never show love in what we do.
Love is a word of action, and it never fails.
Money fails, friendships fail, plans fail, goals fail, ideals fail, we fail.
But, love never fails.
What Is Love?
Love is a soft, humble approach to understanding another person.
1 Corinthians 13 describes love as being patient, and kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, and it isn't proud.
Love does not dishonor others, it isn't self-seeking, and it isn't easily angered, nor does it keep a record of wrongs.
Love does not delight in evil, but rejoices in the truth. Love always protects, trusts, always hopes, and always perseveres.
How Does Love Work?
Love is a selfless thing, and it gives and gives, and then it gives some more, without wanting anything in return. That is how love works.
Love is worked out in everyday transactions between people and it can be in the form of a smile, a gift, a kind word, a kind gesture, an act of mercy, and so on.
All of us our products of our environment, but we are all born with the ability to love.
God is love, and God created us in His image.
As you learn more about God's love, you will understand why God gave up His Son to die for our sins --Because of His love for us.
Jesus died on the cross for our sins because He loved His Father and wanted to obey Him.
Now, through Jesus Christ and the Holy Spirit, which was made available to us after the ascension of Christ, we can rise above our circumstances and be renewed in our mind and spirit.
When this happens, we can show love so freely, and it's the most rewarding thing ever.
Because God's love never fails.
What Does Love Look Like?
Love isn't the picture of a cherub or an arrow through a heart, it is of a mother soothing her infant late in the night, or of a husband speaking kindly to his wife, or of a wife overlooking her husband's faults.
Love is a a picture of children respecting their parents, and Christians obeying God.
Love is an act of peace, when it refuses to say something hurtful in disagreements.
Love is revealed in patiently listening to another person's stories, or forgiving someone's wrongdoing.
Love is offering someone a blessing versus a curse.
Love is demonstrated in everyday moments of giving up our time for the good of another through acts of kindness, moments of gentleness, walking in humility, and expressing gratitude.
Walk in Love
In Ephesians 5:18, we are admonished to be children of light who walk in love with everyone, not just with those who we love, but with our enemies as well.
Walking as children of light involves living in a way that is pleasing to God.
This is my commandment, that you love one another, as I have loved you, that your joy may be full. John 15:10-12
Have you experienced this joy that comes from offering love by way of forgiveness and sympathy to another human being?
